There are two kinds of locations in photography:
Pinterest-worthy… and some are “Pinterest-if-you-squint.”
When I met up with the L. family for their Atlanta family mini session, we found ourselves in the cutest little courtyard—brick walls, leafy vines, that urban-but-charming vibe. One teensy problem: it was darker than a cave full of sunglasses.
But fear not. I brought my secret weapon.
No, not caffeine. (That’s my other secret weapon. #singleworkingmomvibes)
I’m talking about my marvelous off-camera lighting—a.k.a. my portable sun.

While the courtyard lighting was doing its best “brooding indie film” impression, I was going for something more “Hallmark movie opening credits.” With a few strategic light pops, suddenly the space looked like a golden afternoon—even though it was basically 10 a.m., overcast, and already misting.
The L. family? Absolute pros in front of the camera. They giggled, they played, they gave me actual model vibes while also making sure no one tripped over the light stand.(10/10 teamwork.)

At one point, I swear we laughed more than we took photos. (Not that I’m complaining—laughing families make for excellent candid shots.)
